WEEK 4 Sea levels rise in New Zealand
Rising sea levels are a big risks for New Zealand. Sea levels could rise until 2050.
New Zealand has published its first draft national plan on how the country can adapt to rising sea levels and other climate risks. Government says that One in seven people in New Zealand lives in flood-prone areas, and sea levels are rising 2.4 milimeters each year. Also says that the rate of rising sea levels for 60 years to 2020 is more than double that of the previous 60 years.
The draft national adaptotion plan sets down policy actions to handle rising sea levels and other climate risks across five policy areas.
・Natural environment
・Homes, buildings, and places
・Infrastructure
・Communities
・Economy and financial system
In adittion, government has announced plans to tax livestock burping and urination.
This is the first such effort in the world. About half of New Zealand's greenhouse gases come from farms. The new tax revenue will be used to research and develop new technologies to reduce emissions from livestock, as well as incentives for farmers to reduce emissions. These are countermeasures against global warming.
We may not be able to live in New Zealand eventually.
Lastly, what can we do to prevent global warming? I think, use water carefully, refrain from using a car, bring your own bag when you go shopping.
It is important for each of us to work on saving energy. Let's start right now.
